At the end of July, I feel like I am truly settled in. The past few months have been filled with a lot of different emotions, schedules, and the art of juggling it all. Unlike last year, I was enjoying every moment of it. However, I felt like I wasn’t achieving the right level of balance that I wanted. By the end of last week, I started to see a clearer picture. Now, as I’m writing this I am excited to say that I feel that I am truly settled into my life right now and it’s giving me more inspiration than ever before.
I also completed my twelve-week year this month which I am excited about! I haven’t taken the time yet to reflect on my twelve-week year, but I have to say I came out learning a lot about myself and feel like I am starting to take the steps that will allow me to build the life that I want. One that is balanced and filled with all of the things that I love and the things that pay my bills.
Personal Update: Recovery & Adjusting
July concluded the bulk of my travels for 2024. To say I am relieved is such an understatement. In July I traveled to Barbados and Chicago both to celebrate Birthdays. While I always enjoy time to get away, I’m also happy when I can be at home. I’m excited to spend the rest of the summer in New York having fun with friends and just really enjoying the city before it gets cold again.
During July I completed my 100th Hot Yoga class! Yoga has become such an awesome part of my life and it’s something that I look forward to. I’ve built a solid yoga practice and I’m excited to keep building it and find new opportunities to play and explore. Every day I’m thankful that I get to move my body every day and Yoga is a great way to celebrate that. I also had some of my friends from college come and visit me and it was so nice to be able to just catch up just like old times. It’s crazy to think that it’s been over a decade since we’ve met. It’s just a reminder of all the different seasons of life we’ve seen each other in and that we will continue to see each other in the future.
Career Update: Finding my groove
I’ve been working on a big project at work that has been quite a bit of a challenge. I’m constantly learning which is a mix of fun, scary, and interesting. Regardless I can say that I like my job. One thing that I’ve been proud of this year is that I have developed such a healthy relationship with my work. I’m so thankful that I have a great team of managers who are supportive but are also finding areas that they know will challenge me. That being said, I am going to be very grateful when this project is over, and have already put in my top.
Now that I feel like I have a healthy relationship with work, I’m starting to have a little bit of curiosity to work on a project of some sort. I think I want to dedicate some time each week to work on a side project that can bring some fun back into programming, but also help me at work as well. I’m not sure what it is going to be yet but stay tuned for more in this journey.
Business Update: Special Projects & Resuming LinkedIn Learning Courses
One thing that I want to do more of in August is create every single day. I spend so much time creating and this is a hobby that I haven’t been able to let go of. I think I’ve figured out a rhythm and a flow where I can allow my current content load can still operate and I can find other avenues that fuel my curiosity and creativity but I will also be looking for opportunities to generate revenue. Current things I’m looking to work on/get started on are:
- YouTube Videos
- A Personal Newsletter
- A coding project
I’ll also still be working on LinkedIn Learning Courses! This month two of my LinkedIn Learning courses have finally been released! I love being able to work with the LinkedIn Learning team. After taking a much-needed break, I’m excited to get back into creating more courses. If you’re interested in learning more about Go and Typescript, I invite you to check out my courses!
Closing
One of the things that July taught me was that it’s important to recognize my reality. Part of being able to do all of the things requires me to be intentional and focused and do the things that flow the most easily. I’m excited to continue working on revamping my schedule and routines so that I can continue to build the life that I want and that makes me feel the most fulfilled. I hope that August will be very transformational and encourage me to believe bigger than I ever thought before.
