Life is such a balancing act and we should all strive to live it to the fullest. However, it can be exhausting. Throughout my time in college, I struggled to balance pursuing my engineering degree with eating regularly, getting a good night’s sleep, and trying to maintain a social life. Even though I’m no longer in school and have a job, I still find myself constantly on the go and looking for new things to worry about. When one is weighed down by work, it’s easy to just go through the motions and stop living in the moment. Here are some of the ways I find balance in my daily life, though I wouldn’t claim I’ve mastered the art of it.
Find quantitative checkpoints that can psyche you into thinking you have your life together
There are a few things I do routinely that allow me to think that things are mostly in order. For me, it needs to be things that I can actually see because I get caught in my head way too often. By identifying quantitative checkpoints, you’ll be able to find balance.
Call your friends and family
I can’t stress this enough. Communication is essential in maintaining and fostering relationships. Your friends and family care about you and frequent check-ins will lift your spirits and keep you going.
Plan and Budget
Organize a trip. Make a weekly plan. Schedule your day. Plan your evening. Having plans can give you something to look forward to. With it, you can reorganize your life and finances to make those things happen. Setting a budget helps you be realistic about your financial situation. And if you can keep to it, you’ll be able to develop self-control that may be empowering.
I hope some of these tips help those in whatever stage of life you’re in. If you have any tips you’d like to share, please feel free to leave a comment!
