Hello Beautiful People! Happy Fall! It’s hard to imagine that we are now approaching the end of the year. I feel like this year has gone by fast but at the same time I felt all of it. Personally, fall is one of my favorite seasons. The outfits, the cool mornings, the changing of colors are all just signals that time is still moving and we owe it to ourselves to pause and enjoy every moment. The last time I wrote an update was in July and we have so much to catch up on! Curious to what I’ve been up to? Keep reading.

August was filled with so much fun! Every week was packed to the brim. In addition to teaching yoga and being a software engineer, my weeks were filled with going to concerts, attending the US open, hanging out with friends near and far, and being a bridesmaid in two of my friends weddings! Everything was feeling good and fun but as we reached the end of the month, things started to take a turn.

Teaching yoga started to feel really disorienting. The studio I worked at was undergoing a lot of management issues and transitions which led to classes being canceled at the last minute. There were times that I would be rushing to leave my apartment after a long day of work only to find out that the class was canceled when I got to the studio. Once my yoga schedule that I got accustomed to started to feel all over the place, everything sort of started to topple over after that as I tried juggling the other aspects of my life simultaneously. Anytime I tried to take a moment to recharge my battery, I could never get it to 100%. By the end of the month, I was completely burnt out and I was forced to take a break from everything.
Rest and Recalibrate
September was fully focused on resting and recharging. For a little bit over a week, I didn’t leave my couch. I watched so much TV, stayed up late, and ate so much junk food, I felt like a kid again. I let go of the pressure of creating and just allowed myself to rest, enjoy and be present with my friends and family, pour back into myself and examine deeper about who I am and what I need to change.

One of the biggest things I learned last month is that I need to resist the urge to do more. I already do incredibly too much. That isn’t changing. However, I don’t need to do everything to the max capacity because it creates an imbalance. I need to leave more room and more space not only for me, but for the unexpected and unprecedented things that may come up. The thing about being someone who does a lot is that no one is ever going to stop me from doing more. I have to set the boundary for myself. As a yoga instructor, that looks like teaching at 1 yoga studio and committing to teaching 1 class one time a week. And as an entrepreneur, that looks like identifying my two focus areas and shutting down/pausing the rest.
Pausing blogging
As much as I really don’t want to, I have to pause operations on my blog. Anytime I sat down and wrote to this audience I always enjoyed it, however, finding time to do it with everything else I have going on was proving to be harder and harder. And while, I have so many dreams and aspirations for this blog, I am only one person and I have to lean into the things that don’t feel as much of hurdle as I really focus on making a dedicated effort to growing my business. The one thing that I take comfort in knowing is that this will always be my domain and I will always be able to come back to it when the time is right.
This also doesn’t mean my writing days are over. I will be fully focused on my substack Margin Notes where you can find all of my insights and takeaways on productivity and everything in between. I am excited for what’s to come within the space and feel confident that this is the best move for me with my current bandwidth.
Closing
One of my essays on Margin Notes that often come back to is Leave Room In Your Suitcase. It’s funny because as I read it again, I realized that I am still guilty of overpacking my suitcase. I didn’t leave room for the unexpected twists and turns and it led me to exactly where I knew it would lead me to which is burnout. Crazy, right? As I move forward, I’m moving with my suitcase a lot lighter and with more optimism and hope on the horizon.
