I had mentioned that May was incredibly busy and as a result, I made this month a month to intentionally rest. I didn’t travel anywhere and I focused on getting back into my routines and figuring out how can I do the things that I need to do without feeling overwhelmed or burnt out.
That being said, June was still filled with a lot of fun and celebrations. I celebrated my sister’s birthday and three friends’ birthdays in New York City, went to a concert, and hosted one of my oldest friends whom I hadn’t seen in almost a decade! Summer in New York City is always a good time and while I do have a couple of out-of-town trips coming up, I’m looking forward to primarily being here and enjoying the city and my community.
Prioritizing Fitness
One of the things that I love about being back at home, is keeping up with my routines. In the past month, I got to do a live Peloton class with Ally Love and joined my friend’s running club! I’ve also been keeping up with my tennis and have been enjoying the time and the opportunities to prioritize my health while also being social! One of the things that you have to be intentional about in New York is building your community and prioritizing social self-care just as much as the other types of self-care. Finding places and spaces where you can be around people who have similar interests is so critical in making this big city feel a little bit smaller.
I’m still working on my tennis! It’s so crazy to think that in July I would have been playing tennis for a year! From not being able to properly hold a racket to now being able to rally for a long time has been such a fun journey and one of the things that I looking forward to every week. If you’re reading this and you’re wondering whether or not it’s too late to start a new hobby, I’m here to tell you that it’s not! Just start and enjoy the journey of not being good at something at first and watch how you continue to improve.
Looking Forward
As I’ve said before, it’s hard to believe that we are halfway through the year. I’ve been spending this month really reflecting on that and also trying to envision what I want the next six months to look like. At the end of every year, I do an annual review. Usually, I just look at the annual review at the end of the year before starting the next one, but this year I decided to check in six months in. I was surprised to see that despite my feeling all over the place, I am actually on track with where I want to be at this point. I created a vision board that I’m excited to put up in my room to remind me to stay focused on my goals and to continue to believe in myself.
Closing
It’s been about a year since I started making these life update posts and as I read back at the very first one, it’s amazing how life has completely changed for the better. I’m in a way better place in my career and I feel the best I’ve felt emotionally, mentally, and physically. I am so grateful for everything that this life has offered me and for the moments that have truly made life worth living. As I head into the last half of the year, I’m hoping for continued clarity, locking in on my goals, and an overflow of opportunities.
